Your Name: Pam Heil
Brand Name: Girly Bits Cosmetics
Where are you fromCanada

When have you started? I began making polishes from scratch in 2010. My first official sale to the public was in September of 2011, and it was advertised on by blog and Facebook  I was picked up by Llarowe in November of 2011, and Girly Bits was officially launched on Llarowe in January of 2012.

Is there a story behind the name of your brand? Basically, I started blogging, and I wanted to incorporate all girly things, not just polish, so I called it Girly Bits. I gathered a following on the blog rather quickly, so it made sense to carry the name through to my brand. Here is a link to the page on my blog that tells a little bit about how Girly Bits began.

How many polishes/collections have you created? To date, I have released 50 colors.

Is there a special polish/collection? Why? The first collection -Sea's the Day- will always be special because it was the first confirmation that people outside of my immediate friends, truly loved what I was making. And several of the shades were named by bloggers and friends I met in the polish community. To this day, those colors remain among my personal favorites.

Where you a polish addicted before starting making polishes? Absolutely. I had an extensive collection, and I have always played around, mixing different polishes together to create new things. I just didn't know there was a name for it.

Did you have a blog before making polishes or have you started one after? I started my blog in June of 2011. I had been mixing polishes together for years, and started buying raw ingredients to make them from scratch in 2010.

What's your favorite thing about making polishes? It's mostly about the joy of having a creative outlet that produces something that is shareable, and appreciated by other people. It's very rewarding to have a vision in my head, and be able to sit down and make it come to life. There is also something really special about creating something with my own hands, and sending it off to the farthest corners of the world to be enjoyed by someone, and then seeing it on line. It makes the world a smaller place.

Can you tell us a curious thing that has happened to you with some client or something funny? Well, not really funny, but a few months ago I was accepting a delivery of some packing peanuts and shipping supplies, and the truck driver asked me what type of business I owned. He said that he had mentioned to his wife earlier that day, that he had a delivery to make to 'Girly Bits' and wondered what kind of business that might be. His wife's reply was "oh, you mean like the nail polish?" That made my day.

Is there anything you'd Like to share: Girly Bits Cosmetics is now available in select local stores, and as we continue to expand our product line, we hope to reach a wider customer base. We have also been able to contribute to a local fundraising event, and to date have donated $3000.00 to the Brady Rogers memorial bursary fund, in memory of a local teen who lost his life unexpectedly this past summer.

Other than having children, this has been the most challenging, and the most rewarding thing I have done. I am very excited for what the future of the brand holds, and I am thankful for the people I have met, and the things I have learned about myself along the way.
