Your Name:  Christy Rose

Brand Name: KBShimmer

Where are you from? I am a Minnesota native but have lived in Indiana for 12 years now.

When have you started?  KBShimmer was started in 2008.

Is there a story behind the name of your brand?  KBShimmer was names after my daughter.  When thinking of business names, we wanted to somehow tie it to family.  Her nickname since she was a baby was Katy Bug, so we used KB and then paired it with shimmer as I have always loved sparkle and shine.  Plus I loved the way KBShimmer sounded.

How many polishes/collections have you created?  I have sold about 50 different polish colors, with many more in testing.  I am doing a mini launch on Jan. 16 and will launch my spring line in mid or late February.

Is there a special polish/collection? Why?  I think that my fall 2012 collection was the most special.  I truly love each and every polish in that collection, especially Oh Splat!

Where you a polish addicted before starting making polishes?  Most defiantly.  I have been a pedicure addict for year, each time coming home with a different wild color on my toes.  I also have been a huge fan of OPI forever.  I think at one time I had 4 bottles of I Am Not Really a Waitress

Did you have a blog before making polishes or have you started one after? I am not a huge blogger at all.  I have a page, but never post to it.  You can find me on Facebook often though.  Since I sell more than polish, I have had my page up for years.

What’s your favorite thing about making polishes?  I would have to say the way colors and combos can surprise me.  When creating No Whine Left, I was shooting for something else altogether.  I swatched it and was not thrilled at all.  But then I added top coat and the blue and fuchsia just popped out!  I fell in love at that point.  I also love adding a pop of the unexpected, like pairing lime green with purple in Sugar Plum Faerie, or orange with the chartreuse and blue in Toucan Touch This.

Can you tell us a curious thing that has happened to you with some client or something funny?   I don’t have a really funny polish story, but I do with soap.  I was told of a customer that gifted a bar of pumpkin soap to the hose of a dinner party.  The hose gushed about how good it smelled, and put the bar away. Later the bar was brought out and sliced up.  After taking a bite, he realized it was not fudge but soap, and had a great laugh.  I guess my products do smell good enough to eat!

Is there anything you'd like to share?  Yes!  I think a lot of people know me for polish, but I started with soap and bath bombs.  Lotion and scrubs are also huge sellers, so I encourage people when getting polish, to add a scrub, soap, or lotion.  They won’t regret it!
