For those who don't know what I am talking about (Follow me through Facebook to know a lot more!) I am making an Indie Guide A-Z! This will be a huge project and a enormous pleasure to do! So .. what am I going to do? Everyday, I'm going to show you a different brand of Indie Nail Polishes (and some of their major stockists too!! )

Para quem não sabe do que eu estou a falar ( basta seguirem-me também no Facebook para saberem as novidades em primeira mão ) estou a fazer um Guia de Vernizes Indie. Este é um projecto enorme e muito trabalhoso que tenho imenso prazer de partilhar convosco! Então, o que é que vou fazer? Todos os dias, vou-vos mostrar uma marca diferente de vernizes indies com entrevistas com as meninas ( e meninos) que os fazem! Além disso, tambem vos vou trazer entrevistas com as maiores lojas onde eles se vendem!

 Brand Name: Literary Lacquers

Where are you from?

I live on a mountaintop in the high desert in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It’s such a beautiful place to live, with lovely light. I’m constantly inspired by the natural beauty around me.

When have you started?

I started playing around with mixing polish in 2011 but started working in earnest on my line in spring of 2012.

Is there a story behind the name of your brand?

I wanted to create a line with a strong theme. I particularly like my polish names to have meaning to them. My two greatest passions are nail polish and literature and Literary Lacquers gave me a way to combine the two.

How many polishes/collections have you created?

I have released 3 collections: Midsummer Night’s Dream, Dracula and Gift of the Magi. In January, I will be releasing the first quartet of a jelly collection inspired by American Transcendentalism with at least 3 other quartets to come throughout 2013. In February, the next big collection will be called The Good Parts; it will be based on erotic literature through the ages, including a charcoal linear holo inspired by 50 Shades of Grey. I am also working on a Spring collection inspired by Anne of Green Gables to be released in April.

Is there a special polish/collection? Why?

They are all special to me. I carefully read each work several times during my creation process and really try to evoke the meaning and feeling of the passage or work that has inspired me in the texture and color of the polish.

Where you a polish addicted before starting making polishes?

Of course! I love polish in all its forms.

Did you have a blog before making polishes or have you started one after?

I have a cosmetics blog, but I rarely post. I have a full time job, 3 small businesses and I’m working on an accounting degree in my spare time (ha!)

   

What’s your favorite thing about making polishes?

I truly enjoy everything about the process. I even dream about my creations. I love making custom polishes for people, there’s just something about the collaborative creative process that I especially enjoy, but mostly, I enjoy sharing them with others. I especially love when people post their manicures on my Facebook page. Each photo gives me such a sense of gratitude and satisfaction.

Can you tell us a curious thing that has happened to you with some client or something funny? 

I am so grateful for the opportunity to interact with people all over the world. This isn't funny, but recently a person bought a two polishes and wrote to me to ask if I could combine the shipping on the orders. She mentioned in her message that something traumatic had recently happened to her and that she didn't know why she was telling me about it because she hadn't told anyone else. I immediately contacted her and encouraged her to reach out to her family and to arrange for emotional support and a qualified therapist to help her through this experience. I’m happy to say that she did get the support and help that she needs and I was humbled and honored by the opportunity that my polish gave me to make a positive difference in someone’s life.

Is there anything you'd Like to share:

I ship internationally and love to work on custom polishes! I am always happy to hear from my customers. Each bottle of my polish is made with love and good intentions and I hope that my customers can feel that.
